Set in a beautiful area, perfect for a business trip with plenty of walks. The staff were incredibly welcoming and provided a great service, which included an amazing selection of local beers. The pub was very cozy and has a unique and interesting décor, making it stand out from other generic hotels.

Our room was located up two flights of steep stairs making it difficult to carry heavy luggage. The Wi-Fi signal in our room was also quite weak making it difficult to do work.

The Malt Shovel Inn is a hidden gem located in the Forest of Dean, making it the perfect base for exploring the area. the hosts, Dan and Dawn, are incredibly welcoming and create a friendly atmosphere in the bar. the rooms are clean and comfortable, providing a cozy retreat after a day of adventure. the breakfast offered is a traditional British spread, with options like toast, cereal, and croissants. the pub serves a great selection of beers and boasts a skittles team and alley on the first floor, adding to its characterful charm.

Some of the décor may not be to everyone's taste, with stuffed birds and animals on the stairs and quirky wall hangings throughout the inn.

Had a wonderful Christmas stay at this charming inn. Loved the cozy and atmospheric ambiance of the ancient building with its stone walls and old fireplaces. the warm and friendly service of the staff made us feel right at home. the real ales and ciders on offer were excellent and we really enjoyed trying them all. the location provided us with stunning views of the surrounding countryside, which made for a perfect winter wonderland experience.

We would have liked to have more choices for our meals.
